Pencils for Peace was founded in 2008 by Mercell and Milan Enayat, proud Afghan-Americans who were born and raised in the United States. Despite our American upbringing, our hearts have always been deeply connected to our ancestral homeland, Afghanistan. Through our visits to Afghanistan, we've witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by women and children in the country. Motivated by our own privileged access to education and opportunities in the United States, we felt a strong calling to support and uplift those in Afghanistan who are not as fortunate. Pencils for Peace is our way of giving back to our community and helping Afghan women and children achieve their aspirations and overcome oppression through education and empowerment.
